Dertec produces drives with a smooth stainless steel design and seamless, rounded transitions, making the products easy to clean and preventing dirt build-up. At the assembly facility in Sassenheim, the products are assembled according to customer specifications. Although welding is not a core process, Dertec consciously chose manual laser welding instead of TIG welding. The reason: minimal heat input and therefore no deformation of the thin-walled stainless steel. This ensures that all components remain within the specified tolerances. The technology is used, among other things, to attach mounting feet to motor housings and to weld gears onto shafts — connections that are strong, dimensionally accurate and technically reliable.
Pim van Elk is Dertec’s regular welder. Since the implementation of laser welding, however, two additional colleagues have been trained to carry out the welding work with the laser as well. The simplicity of the process makes training and finding new personnel faster and more efficient. In addition to the benefits already mentioned, the implementation of laser welding also saves approximately 10 minutes per motor housing. This means LAZRZ also meets Dertec’s expectations and needs in terms of efficiency.
