We can imagine that you still have a lot of questions!
That is why we have gathered several frequently asked questions below to answer your questions.
Which materials can I laser weld?
With the handheld laser, the following materials can be welded: steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper and nickel.
Which filler metals can I use?
The laser welding machine is supplied with a wire feeder comparable to that of a MIG/MAG machine. Wires on a BS-300 spool can therefore also be used for laser welding.
Which gas should be used for manual laser welding?
For manual laser welding, you can use Argon 4.6 or nitrogen. The gas protects the weld pool against oxidation and prevents dust and fumes from entering the welding head.
What are the health effects of laser welding radiation?
The laser welding machine emits a laser beam with an invisible wavelength. Direct contact with the laser beam can cause burns. In addition, reflections or direct laser light can cause eye damage. However, highly effective protective glasses are available for this risk. The laser light has no other negative effects.
What is the length of the fiber of a laser welding machine?
The fiber of a LAZRZ laser welding machine is 7.5 meters long.
Is dangerous radiation also emitted during laser welding?
Direct laser light is dangerous to the skin and eyes due to its high energy density. Reflections can also be dangerous to the eyes and may cause eye damage. The light emitted by the laser is not visible, but it behaves like visible light.
Can I use my standard welding helmet for laser welding?
No, a standard welding helmet is designed to protect you against visible light and UV radiation. The infrared light from the laser is not blocked by the filter in the welding helmet. However, it is possible to wear a standard welding helmet over laser safety glasses to reduce the brightness of the weld pool.
Which gas is used for laser welding?
For laser welding, nitrogen or argon is used. The gas protects the weld pool against oxidation. In addition, the gas flow from the welding torch protects the lenses against welding fumes and dust.
How do I know which parameters to use for laser welding?
In the LAZRZ FWS series laser welding machines, you can select a welding program based on the material type and thickness.
What do I need to start laser welding?
For laser welding, the following items are required: a laser welding machine, a suitable separated workstation, personal protective equipment, proper knowledge of the machine and its safety risks, and consumable parts for the laser welding machine.
Is manual laser welding difficult to learn?
Manual laser welding is not comparable to arc welding processes in terms of the manual skill required. Manual laser welding is easy to perform, and many people can start using this welding process after a short training course.
